End of Life Companion Care

Presence at the threshold

Dusk Hollow companions sit with the dying and their families — offering a steady, compassionate hand through life's most sacred passage.

What We Offer

Care that holds space

Dusk Hollow provides non-medical end-of-life companionship — the kind of presence that hospitals cannot always offer and families sometimes cannot bear alone.

Bedside Vigil Sitting

Our trained companions sit with individuals in their final hours, ensuring no one passes alone. We hold space with calm, unhurried presence — day, night, or through the long wait between.

Family Relief Sitting

Caring for a dying loved one is exhausting and sacred work. We step in so that family members can rest, eat, grieve privately, or simply step outside — returning renewed.

Life Review Listening

We sit and listen as dying persons share their stories — memories, regrets, joys, and wisdom. This gentle witnessing honors a life fully lived and brings profound peace.

Home & Hospice Support

We meet you wherever the dying person calls home — a private residence, hospice facility, or hospital room — adapting our presence to whatever the space and spirit requires.

Threshold Rituals

Meaningful moments — a favorite song played softly, a candle lit, a hand held in prayer or in silence — crafted with the family's own traditions and the dying person's wishes.

Early Grief Support

In the hours and days immediately following a death, Dusk Hollow companions remain available — holding space for the first waves of grief before formal bereavement services begin.

Our Roots

Rooted in the mountains,
present at the crossing

In the Appalachian tradition, death was never hidden away. Neighbors sat through the night. The community gathered. Dying was understood as a passage deserving of ritual, witness, and unhurried company.

Dusk Hollow was founded on that old wisdom — that the dying deserve presence, not just procedures. That families deserve support, not just information. That the end of a life is as sacred as its beginning.

Our companions are trained, compassionate lay caregivers — not medical professionals. We do not treat or intervene. We simply show up, stay, and bear witness.

01

Unhurried presence

We do not watch the clock. We stay for as long as we are needed.

02

Non-denominational

We honor all spiritual traditions and none — following the family's lead entirely.

03

Community-rooted

Our companions live in the communities they serve — neighbors who answer when called.

04

Affordable access

We offer sliding-scale fees and work with hospice organizations to ensure cost is no barrier.

For the dying, and for those who love them

Dusk Hollow companions serve individuals and families at any stage of the dying process — whether death is anticipated weeks away or hours.

We work alongside hospice nurses, palliative care teams, and medical providers. We do not replace professional care — we complete it.

"In the mountains, we kept watch through the long night. Not because the dying couldn't be left alone, but because they shouldn't have to be." — Appalachian tradition
